What this is

A program of Boise Rescue Mission Ministries

The VMP sits at River of Life in Boise. It is for male veterans who are ready to work a plan, not only occupy a bed. Every man here was referred by someone who had already seen how he shows up.

A veteran in the VMP is housed, and he is working five areas at once: housing, financial health, physical and mental health, program engagement, and character in community. The next place he lives has to be one he can keep. That is the point of the program.

It is a program, not a bed. Support and accountability are the same offer.

What we are not

A walk-in veterans dorm. A bed cannot be reserved or held.
Emergency shelter. That starts at Guest Services, on the first floor.
A program that runs on staff presence around the clock. The men carry the floor, including evenings.

How we work

Housing, a plan, and a standard

The accountability is not a warning at the door. It is the method. A man who keeps the standard leaves with a record that landlords, the VA, and the next program can actually use.

A safe place to live

Transitional housing at River of Life, at no cost to the veteran, with the goal of moving into a lease he holds on his own.

A plan with a case manager

Housing, health, benefits, and employment, worked at the same time. Outside partners (VA, El Ada, courts, medical) are part of that plan, not extras.

A standard he can point to

Required programming, on-time appointments, a reply when staff messages him, and a monthly savings review against actual bank statements.

No rent is a chance to build a lease

Rent, utilities, and food are covered while he is in the program. Most people spend 60 to 70 percent of income just to survive. He can put that toward the next place.

Missing the target two months running puts placement under review. Hitting it, month after month, is the letter of recommendation a landlord actually reads.

How a veteran enters

Two ways in. Both are real.

The VMP is not a walk-in program. A bed cannot be reserved or held. There is a direct path for men already on a fixed outside schedule, and a standard path that starts at Guest Services. Most of the men here came in the second way.

Already reporting on a fixed schedule

Boise VA Intensive Outpatient Program, Boise VA Behavioral Health on a set appointment schedule, Veterans Treatment Court, or entering RSAT. That outside structure stands in for the observation period.

What those four share: a named provider, a set schedule, and someone outside the Mission who will notice if he stops showing up.

The usual route

Guest Services first

Check in at River of Life (575 S. 13th St). A Guest Services case manager is assigned. Time in the building is how that case manager sees how he shows up day to day. The referral comes from Guest Services when the timing is right.

This is the usual route, not a lesser one.
